We are looking for a talented and motivated analyst to be based in our Beijing office to strengthen our Gas and LNG Market research presence in China. The candidate will be responsible for providing natural gas and LNG industry expertise with focus on China. The role is part of Rystad Energy’s Gas and LNG Market research team that is responsible for global and regional natural gas and LNG market research.
The candidate will contribute with analysis of the Chinese gas market covering data collection and forecasts for the gas and LNG value chain, including trade flows, infrastructure developments on pipelines, regasification terminals and storages, and price formation using our bottom-up approach to data, as well as research on China gas policies and providing insights. The candidate should be keen in developing a long-term career in energy and commodity research, preferably with knowledge in gas and LNG market. The candidate is expected to master the short-term to long-term market dynamics and be able to combine the analysis of data with input from industry players to build defensible views and predictions.
Responsibilities include creating models using data gathered from primary research and proprietary Rystad Energy datasets to forecast supply, demand, and pricing trends for country-wide and regional markets in China. The candidate will also be responsible for creating PowerPoint decks and writing research notes showcasing findings from data analysis and market research. Supporting gas and LNG consulting projects as well as making presentations to clients regularly will be required.
Job Responsibilities
Research on China natural gas and LNG market
Work closely with regional experts and collaborate with other region’s analysts to strengthen our global research and presence
Understand the correlation and dynamics of the global and regional gas markets
Analyze developments in Chinese gas value chain using our internal data and external sources
Forecast natural gas demand by sector (power, industrial, residential, etc.) with a special focus on China’s evolving energy policies
Follow infrastructure developments in the regasification, pipeline and storage projects to understand the evolution of trade flows across provinces and country borders
Deeply understand and analyze gas and LNG pricing mechanism in China
Contribute to forecasting international gas prices
Track and forecast short-term LNG trade flows using in-house AIS LNG vessel data
Produce quantitative and qualitative research reports and commentaries delivering strategic market outlook
Analyze the technical and economic feasibility of planned regasification and pipeline projects in China
Participation at conferences and client site meetings
Assist with activities on business development and to strengthen market awareness
Requirements / Skills
Strong academic track record in the relevant education field (e.g. economics, engineering, international trade, finance, information technology)
Preferably with 1-3 years of direct industry experience in energy and gas market research or competitor intelligence groups at Eamp;P, midstream or LNG companies
Fresh graduate with strong academic background and related internship experience also considered
Preferably with knowledge in gas and LNG market, or other commodity markets
Outstanding ability to synthesize data and information coming from multiple sources (quantitative and qualitative)
Proven ability to handle and process large data sets, preferably with experience in using Python, SQL or any other commonly used programming language
Solid proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
Keen in developing a long-term career in energy and commodity market research
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a hands-on attitude
Good command of spoken and written English (strongly preferred) and Chinese and able to demonstrate good writing skills
Commercial mindset and strong self-motivation
Outstanding team player, also fully capable of working independently
