About the Role
Space Matrix is seeking a dynamic leader to co-lead the Design Team of the Shanghai Studio with the Design Director overseeing China. The new Design Lead will be accountable for managing the Studio’s design output and the impact to the Pamp;L. You will be a part of the design team responsible for firm-wide design excellence. Reporting to Design Director, you will elevate the quality of design and design output of the studio by managing efficiently the resources of the team and the projects involved. Your role will essentially impact winning businesses to reach targeted goals for the studio.
Specific Responsibilities:
- You will be responsible for the business and design performance of the Design Studio.
- Foster a culture of design excellence in the studio, setting high standards for design and delivery.
- Be responsible for project/team leadership and performance to achieve client, quality, and financial metrics.
- As part of the design leadership team, ensure the organisation has effective training programmes amp; mentor and motivate the design team to ensure performance and design excellence.
- Participate in business development pursuits and client pitches in the region and support in defining scope and fees
- Build client relationship management processes and tools that lead to improved organizational performance and Net Promoter Scores.
- Be actively involved in marketing for talent to build a strong and successful design organization with the appropriate talent capacity and expertise.
- Drive organizational initiatives related to innovation, including digital technology exploration, integration, and evolution.
- You will drive business development efforts in the region, acquire new clients and manage sales targets.
- You will develop and take part in pitches and other presentations that meet the client’s needs and expectations.
- You will manage the welfare and motivation of direct reports and provide leadership, guidance and encouragement to achieve their KPI’s.
What We Expect:
- You are a seasoned professional in the design and build Workplace industry with experience in business leadership roles and have a strong network with the industry.
- A degree in Architecture/Interior design or project management and relevant experience of at least 8 years in managing amp; delivering corporate interior projects is preferred.
- You have business experience in Mainland China.
- You have excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Mandarin Chinese.
- You are passionate about impacting ‘industry leading thinking’ in workplace design and execution and stay abreast of trends and competitive positioning and have the persistence and the perseverance to bring the best solutions for the customer.
- This position requires detail orientation, a process driven approach, quick problem-solving skills, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- You are comfortable with ambiguity, have high learning agility and problem solving skills.
- Thorough understanding of project work plans, schedules, staffing, and budgets
- Demonstrated ability to execute projects profitably
- Proven ability to prioritize yourself and the work of others to meet deadlines and provide high-quality service to clients
