Job Description

We are looking for a Head of English for Secondary Education division of an International School based in Shenzhen. This is a full-time position starting from the upcoming academic year in August 2024.

About the school

The international school, situated in the Nanshan Zone, is spread over an area of 14,700 square meters and offers esteemed IGCSE and A Level international curriculum. It is set up to accommodate up to 900 students, featuring superior resources for Early Years to Sixth Form with boarding services. The campus offers a comprehensive approach to education, with sports and recreational grounds, library and common rooms, as well as cafeterias and lecture halls. This gives students the opportunity to move between different learning and activities areas, allowing them to learn, work together, and interact in a relaxed manner.

Job responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive secondary English curriculum that integrates with the central curricula, focusing on innovative pedagogical approaches and personalized learning
  • Lead and manage English language teachers, establish effective communication within the department, and evaluate teaching standards and practices, including performance appraisals
  • Create and utilize effective English language assessment strategies and tools, contribute to cross-curricular development, and lead extracurricular activities, fostering collaborative learning communities
  • Implement and evaluate the English language curriculum, tailor learning to student needs, and conduct various assessments for feedback and planning
  • Create a supportive learning atmosphere, adapt teaching methods to suit diverse abilities, and contribute to broader educational roles, including potential boarding school duties
  • Monitor and guide student work, fostering self-esteem and motivation, while maintaining high standards of behavior and dress
  • Regularly communicate with parents and the inclusion team, and engage with community and charity initiatives
  • Contribute to team cohesion, adhere to policies, and actively engage in school activities and professional development initiatives
  • Maintain a professional demeanor as a student role model, continuously update subject knowledge, and positively engage in the school's development and evaluation processes

Requirements

  • A relevant degree with secondary education teacher training in English Language education, recognized in Hong Kong or the UK, or an equivalent qualification granting QTS
  • Experience with the English Curriculum from the CDCHK or the KS3 and KS4 National Curriculum of England
  • Prior experience teaching non-native English speakers or at the secondary level is advantageous.
  • Teaching experience with children is necessary, either through formal employment or teacher training, especially for recent graduates
